MUA: MINI HOCKEY SOLIDARI
Every year, 1,200 new cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed throughout Spain. Unlike cancer in adults, childhood cancer cannot be prevented and research is the only option to move forward. Thanks to these research efforts, 80% of cases can currently be cured.
The problem is that most of the public and private resources that are invested in cancer research are focused, for the most part, on adult cancer and childhood cancer remains forgotten.
Of all types of childhood cancer, the most common is leukaemia. It occurs when white blood cells turn into cancer cells. MUA is a solidarity association founded by the family of a child suffering from leukaemia. Its purpose is to raise funds for research on this disease. For this they allocate their profits to the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital.
The Sant Joan de Déu Hospital has a childhood cancer research laboratory, made up of a team of twenty professionals. More than 70% of its budget comes from private donations as a result of the efforts of entities and associations such as MUA and of supportive people who make it possible.
MUA, a solidarity entity
Since 2014, MUA has developed all kinds of activities with the aim of raising funds for leukaemia research. For this, it has organised various initiatives such as the sale of crafts (key rings, handles and bags), it has collaborated in the sale of the story The Secret of Lima, together with the Pelayo Foundation they have obtained funds for various research projects, together with the BUFF company They designed an exclusive MUA tubular whose benefits go entirely to leukaemia research and they have managed to involve companies such as Santoro and his famous doll Gorjuss or Comomola in their project by dressing two of their characters for children Comomola Piratas with the MUA tubular.
But today we want to talk to you, especially, about an activity that has been carried out since the foundation of the association in 2014 and that touches us very closely, the Mini Hockey solidarity.
Mini Hockey solidarity, playing sports for childhood leukaemia
Last Saturday the VI edition of Mini Hockey solidarity as held, the only annual activity held by the association and the most anticipated by all children. Organised, as every year at the Club Egara de Terrassa facilities, it brings together boys and girls from 7 to 10 years old, from all the hockey clubs in Catalonia.
From a sporting point of view, the event has two types of competition. On the one hand, a mixed 3×3 is held for boys and girls of 7 and 8 years old. Teams play their matches throughout the day.
At the same time, the 6×6 modality is played, a competition divided into male and female for ages between 9 and 10 years. 32 teams competing in a fictitious “World Cup”, each with the name of their national team. At the end, the corresponding delivery and awards are made.
In addition, thanks to the collaborating entities, each participant receives their Welcome Pack with some super-cool gifts, a picnic for lunch and a Tournament T-shirt.
This year’s edition also featured games, workshops, inflatables, a raffle, bar service and a solidarity village.
This year’s Mini Hockey solidarity has been truly exceptional, for several reasons. The number of registrations have exceeded, reaching 500 participants. More than 1,500 people came to watch the games and enjoy a day of hockey and solidarity. And more than 17,000 euros were raised.
In addition, the event had the special presence of Riqui Puig, a Barça player, who collaborated with a shirt for the raffle. In addition, there was also another shirt signed by Leo Messi, as well as one from Barça Veterans, Espanyol and Girona FC, among other gifts.
This Saturday’s Mini Hockey solidarity was a great sporting and solidarity event that broke a few records and that has established itself as a benchmark for the little ones.
If you want to be informed of MUA activities or you are interested in collaborating in any way, you can find out on their website or through their social networks: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
